Elon performing artists shine in birthplace of the Renaissance

The finale of the Florence Center Spring 2015 semester happened April 30 at Notte Bianca, an annual all-night celebration through the streets of Florence which drew 110,000 tourists from around the world.

Elon’s Kelsey Higgins (saxophonist) and Brandon Mitchell (percussionist) performed with classmates in Piazza del Duomo, the epicenter of Florentine and Renaissance history.

Accademia Europea di Firenze, host to Elon’s Florence Center, is the only school in Italy offering semester programs to performing arts majors. Courses were developed by Elon and AEF to empower Elon’s performing artists to spend a semester in Florence, to get international performance and networking experiences and to continue acquiring the necessary credits to move forward toward an on-time graduation.

The spring semester has come to a close and Elon students delivered another semester of performances with international classmates from both Italy and across the globe. The highlights included Elon dancer Katie Baker performing with classmates from France, Brazil, and Italy while Higgins, Mitchell and their Italian classmates performed in a jazz quintet.
