Teacher Education alumni selected for Kenan Fellows programs

Alumni of both undergraduate and graduate teacher education programs were selected among the latest cohort of Kenan Fellows

Forty public school teachers from across North Carolina were recently selected as the 2015-16 Kenan Fellows, and Alexandra Solender ’12 and Nathan Bourne ’00 G’14 were among the prestigious group.

Beginning in June, the new Fellows will spend five weeks learning and gaining experience through industry partnerships with local experts in nanotechnology, renewable energy, genetics research, energy, and other science, technology, engineering and math disciplines. This experience will be followed by a year-long professional and leadership development program.

Solender, who teaches physics at Holly Springs High School, and Bourne, who teaches science at Broadview Middle School, follow in the footsteps Elon teacher education alumni and 2014-15 Kenan Fellows Chris English ’11 and Liz Brady (Moffitt) ’08 G’12. Among other Kenan Fellows experiences from the past year, Brady had the opportunity to work at the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute, while English worked in a research and development lab at the company Novozymes.
