Music Theatre student studies abroad – on Broadway!

Elon music theatre major Drew Redington ’18 takes a semester off of his studies to join the original Broadway cast of Irving Berlin’s ‘Holiday Inn.’

This past January, music theatre major Drew Redington ’18 went to his first New York open call audition for Irving Berlin’s ‘Holiday Inn’ on Broadway. After three rounds of callbacks, Redington booked the job in late April.

“It’s really amazing being a part of this process because we are creating an original new musical,” Redington said. “Even though ‘Holiday Inn’ is based off of the movie, the director/writer of the show has added so much that it takes some new twists and turns. Every day we receive changes in the script and the score, so it’s challenging to make those changes everyday but keeps us on our toes. It’s exciting to be creating something new that no one has ever seen before.”

Redington is performing in the show alongside another Elon alum – Matt Meigs ’12 – who since graduation has been in the casts of “Tuck Everlasting” and “Matilda” on Broadway, and “Mary Poppins” on tour.

Redington plans to return to school in the spring, provided that the show doesn’t get an extended run past January. Previews for the show started Sept. 1, and the show officially opens at Studio 54.
