Jen Hamel, assistant professor of biology, presented on the causes and consequences of hybridization between two insect species.
Assistant Professor of Biology Jen Hamel gave an invited presentation as part of a symposium on hybridization on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the International Congress of Entomology, held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. Hamel’s talk was co-authored by Dr. Christine Miller at the University of Florida.
Hamel’s presentation was on the causes and consequences of hybridization between two closely related insect species in North Florida. One of the species appears to have recently been introduced there. The congress had over 6,000 participants and attendees, and is intended for academics, federal and state agencies, and industry specialists who work on topics related to insects.
The symposium was titled, “Reproductive Interference and Its Applications,” and included presentations by six researchers who have recently published on this topic.
