Elon Community Church Backpack Program is seeking volunteers to help with their Cooks for Kids Gala on Oct. 15 from 4 – 9 p.m. A dozen honored cooks from the county serve their specialties in this annual Gala event to raise funds through ticket sales for local children that have no food to eat on weekends. The funds raised buy the food that gets placed in the children’s backpacks on Fridays. Most expenses are donated so over 90 percent of the money raised goes to the kids.
