The students competed against more than 60 students in the national collegiate sales competition.

The Elon Sales Team engaged their professional selling skills in the Great Northwoods Sales Warm-up hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Marissa Kashmanian ’17, Brett Huntley ’17, Sophie Pearson ’17, Emily Freirich ’18, and Assistant Professors of Marketing Erin Gillespie and Nawar Chaker at the 2016 Great Northwoods Sales Warm-up.
During the Oct. 20-23 competition, students were scored on two 20-minute sales presentations, in which business professionals acted as buyers. Judges evaluated students on all aspects of the sales call, including approach, needs identification, presentation, overcoming objections, the closing and communication skills.

Marissa Kashmanian ’17, a marketing major from Westborough, Massachusetts, was Elon’s top performer, earning a top-20 score. Brett Huntley ’17, a marketing major from Breckenridge, Colorado, and Sophie Pearson ’17, a strategic communications major from Westborough, Massachusetts, also represented Elon in the competition.

Emily Freirich ’18, a marketing major from Oradell, New Jersey, and Assistant Professors of Marketing Erin Gillespie and Nawar Chaker served as Elon Sales Coaches. The team was supported by the Chandler Family Professional Sales Center.

The annual competition brought together more than 60 students from 21 universities, including Baylor University, Florida State University, Kennesaw State University, University of Texas at Dallas and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

“This competition was the most valuable professional experience I have had to date,” Pearson said. “Networking with companies based in various locations across the nation, jumping into a judged sales role play with a sales professional, and spending time outside the classroom with my professors provided me with an experience I will always draw from and look back upon with a smile.”

In addition to the competition, students had the opportunity to connect with recruiters at a career fair, and attend professional development workshops.

“This sales competition opened up many networking opportunities with potential employers,” Huntley said. “I am now in contact with several companies I would not have found on my own.”
