Women’s Forum has successful inaugural year, names new leaders

In keeping with the values of the Women’s Forum, new women are taking leadership after a successful inaugural year.

Paula Patch, senior lecturer in English, and Chandler Thompson, assistant director of annual giving, will be the 2017-18 co-leaders of the Women’s Forum at Elon, a faculty/staff interest group sponsored by Elon’s Office of Leadership and Professional Development. They will be succeeding founders and co-leaders Alahna Booth, administrative assistant in the office of the president, and Amy Overman, associate professor of psychology and associate director of the Center for the Advancement of Teaching & Learning.

Booth and Overman will continue to serve on an advisory committee for the forum. The committee also includes Janelle Rouse, director of collegiate start and collegiate mentoring in the Center for Access and Success. Brooke Barnett, associate provost for inclusive community and professor of communications, and Ann Flaherty, director of leadership and professional development serve as informal advisors.

In its inaugural year, more than 200 staff and faculty women on campus participated in the Women’s Forum at Elon. This has helped create a space for women from across campus to come together, make new connections and empower one another to succeed.

The Women’s Forum hosted a variety of events from May 2016 through May 2017, including workshops, social and networking hours, book discussion groups and speakers on topics such as “Third Generation Gender Discrimination” and “Why Women Should Ask: Closing the Gender Wage Gap.” In addition to these events, the forum collaborated with Parents Night Out to sponsor child care on the Saturday of Fellows Weekend.
