Students in the Class of 2018 who excelled during their first year at Elon Law were recognized June 1 at a Starmount Country Club dinner featuring remarks from alumna Chelsea Anderson '10 L'13.
Chelsea E. Anderson ’10 L’13 landed her first job four years ago at the same firm where she interned right before graduating from Elon Law.
It was an internship she almost didn’t accept. Family law was where Anderson saw herself, and Connors Morgan, PLLC in Greensboro, North Carolina, focuses primarily on business law.
But as she told some of the top students in Elon Law’s Class of 2018 at a special dinner on Thursday night, after considering the internship offer, her instinct told her this was a special opportunity. She accepted, performed well – and was soon asked to join the firm as an associate.
“Something you think may not be relevant to what you do today may come up tomorrow,” Anderson said. “And don’t turn down any opportunities that come along just because you don’t think it’s the right time.”
Anderson delivered her keynote remarks at a June 1 dinner at Starmount Country Club in Greensboro where Elon Law faculty and staff, and a top Elon University leader, celebrated student achievement in the Class of 2018. Anderson praised her experiences at Elon Law for helping to prepare her for career success.
She also encouraged today’s students to connect with the Elon Law alumni network. Staying connected to alumni will help students find professional resources and opportunities in a way not available from many other law schools, Anderson said.
“Enjoy law school. Enjoy these opportunities,” said Anderson, who had earned her bachelor’s degree from Elon University in 2010 before attending Elon Law. “This is just the beginning for you.”
The annual program featured remarks from Elon University Provost Steven House and Elon Law Dean Luke Bierman. Both praised the students for their commitment to learning and their pioneering spirit to attend a young law school that aims to be “a law school with a difference.”
