Sociology major Jensen Collins ’18 won the North Carolina Sociological Association's Himes Student Paper Award and presented her research at its annual conference.
Elon’s Jensen Collins ’18, who is majoring in sociology and strategic communications, won the Himes Student Paper Award from the North Carolina Sociological Association for her Honors Thesis research titled “The Evolution of Media Narratives of School Shootings in the U.S.”
The Himes Student Paper Award is granted to one undergraduate student research paper each year for its insight, creativity and contribution to sociological knowledge.
Collins received the award at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Sociological Association in Fayetteville, N.C., on Feb. 23, 2018, where she also gave an oral presentation of her research. The theme of this year’s conference was “Social Justice: A Renewed Commitment to Equity and Inclusion.”
