Watch: Elon’s Vital Signs offers full-length virtual concert

The a capella group streamed the concert via Facebook Liveon Saturday, May 9.

The Elon a capella group Vital Signs  offered a full-length virtual concert via Facebook on Saturday featuring more than a dozen songs the group has worked on throughout the year.

Miles Caraballo ’22, musical director for the group, said the idea began to take shape to offer a final spring concert online shortly after the shift to remote learning in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We wanted to allow the seniors one final show since our spring concert is the one that often includes a few special performances,” Caraballo said.

After the group’s executive board made the decision to pursue a virtual concert, the call went out to the more than 20 members of the group to record the songs they have been working on this year. The group’s spring concert typically includes a performance of “Beautiful Day” by U2, with the invitation for alumni in the audience to come on stage and join the performance, Caraballo said. Because of that tradition, alumni of the group were also invited to participate in the virtual performance of the song this year.

Work then began to mesh the nearly 300 audio files together to create the concert as well as to edit video of the performers to offer a compelling visual aspect to the concert as well, according to Caraballo.
