Jewish women on campus come together for second-annual Mega Challah Bake

The event, which drew 150 people, included food, giveaways and performances.

The second annual Mega Challah Bake took place on Sunday, March 26 at Oaks 212. The event was a huge success, with 150 women in attendance, from across Greek life and beyond. The event featured a live performance by Elon students, a lavish kosher sushi spread, free swag and an opportunity for participants to learn the art of making challah, a traditional Jewish bread.

The Mega Challah Bake, which celebrates the Jewish woman, began with a brief introduction to the significance of challah in Jewish culture, and participants were then given the opportunity to make their own challah dough from scratch and braid their own loaves to take home.

“We were thrilled to see so many people come out for this year’s Mega Challah Bake,” said Rivka Minkowitz, one of the organizers of the event. “The live performance by Elon students added a wonderful element to the evening, and the kosher sushi spread was a delicious addition to the event.”

The event, featuring refreshments and a raffle, was dedicated to the memory of the late Barbara Sklut, a proud Elon grandparent who loved baking.

“The Mega Challah Bake is a wonderful opportunity for women to come together and connect through a shared experience,” said Elana Selman ‘23, co-president of Chabad. “It’s an empowering experience to make your own challah, and the event creates a sense of community and connection among participants.”

The event also marked the Jewish year of Hakhel, or gathering, which is celebrated through gatherings and sharing words of inspiration.
