Jeff Clark presents at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America

Clark presented on the use of technology to support writing in the mathematics curriculum.

Professor Jeff Clark presented a talk entitled “Encouraging Students to Write Mathematics: LaTeX and Mathematica” on Friday, March 10 at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.

LaTeX and Mathematica are software packages that facilitate the typesetting of mathematics, among other things. Given that mathematical exposition is based on the use of symbols for concise expression of abstractions, the talk focused on the need to encourage students to use the strengths of these tools to improve their clarity.

Clark has been a member of the Southeastern Section (which he chaired 2017-2019)  for 35 years and a member of the national Mathematical Association of America for 45 years.
