Bullock elected chair of the Professional Educators Preparation and Standards Commission

Ann Bullock, Dr. Jo Watts Williams Dean of Education, was elected to chair the state commission to establish high standards for state educators and to make rule recommendations regarding all aspects of preparation, licensure, continuing education and standards of conduct for public school educators.

Ann Bullock, Dr. Jo Watts Williams Dean of Education, professor and director of teacher education, has been elected the chair of the Professional Educators Preparation and Standards Commission (PEPSC).

The purpose of the Commission as an advising body to the North Carolina State Board of Education (SBE) is to do the following:

  1. involve stakeholders in establishing high standards for North Carolina educators;
  2. make rule recommendations for the SBE regarding all aspects of preparation, licensure, continuing education, and standards of public school educators; and
  3. exercise its powers and duties independently of – while located administratively under – the State Board of Education.

Bullock is the first private school dean to serve as chair. She previously served as secretary to the commission.
