Kenn Gaither, assistant professor in the School of Communications, is a key storyteller in a new episode of The Weather Channel’s “Storm Stories,” appearing in his role as a spokesperson for the Institute for Shipboard Education’s Semester at Sea program. The Weather Channel feature first aired in July, and it will be repeated. The episode described the program’s ship and its participants and an encounter with rough seas in the Pacific during the spring term of 2005. The next time the episode will air is Aug. 30 at 8 and 11 p.m EST. Gaither has worked as an educator and administrator on several Semester at Sea voyages.
Gaither had a busy summer. He presented the seminar “Framing Your Message” to violence-prevention educators and professionals from around the country at UNC-Chapel Hill in early August. The seminar included representatives from the CDC and was sponsored by PREVENT, a national training initiative for injury and violence prevention.
An article Gaither co-authored with Pat Curtin (UNC-CH), “Contested Notions of Issue Identity in International Public Relations: A Case Study” was selected to appear in the spring 2006 issue of the Journal of Public Relations Review.
In addition, a conference paper he co-authored with Curtin, “Contested Notions of Identity in International Public Relations,” was presented in the public relations top paper session at ICA in May.
Gaither spent most of the summer working on a book under contract by Sage Publishers titled “Identity, Power, and Difference in International Public Relations.” The book is scheduled for completion in February 2006 and for publication in fall 2006 or spring 2007.
