The Doctor of Physical Therapy student and class president is using his listening skills as he helps patients.

Morris comes to the Elon University School of Health Sciences with nearly 30 years of nursing experience including significant experience in nursing education at N.C. colleges and universities.

The 38 new graduates in the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program's Class of 2021 participated in their Commencement ceremony in the Great Hall on Saturday, Feb. 27.

Paula DiBiasio, associate professor in physical therapy and GLO program coordinator, and Danielle Lake, director of design thinking and associate professor, are partnering with Doctor of Physical Therapy program students and Global Learning Opportunities (GLO) program alumni to co-design the future of GLO. DiBiasio envisions a more flexible program that positively impacts healthcare disparities by promoting students’ development of skills related to engaging with difference sensitively and equitably.

Alexis Moore, assistant professor of physician assistant studies, and Dr. Judy Esposito, associate professor of human service studies, presented research on the importance of teaching empathy and critical thinking skills to physician assistant (PA) students. Abstract co-authored with Dr. Cynthia Fair, professor of public health studies and human service studies.

Elon’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and Physician Assistant Studies program welcomed new classes of students following a highly selective admissions process. The three-year, full-time DPT Program enrolled 48 students while the 24-month, full-time PA Program enrolled 38 students.

Elon School of Health Sciences celebrated student accomplishments at the 2020 SHS Global Engagement and Research Forum.

In a research study that was done completely virtually and funded by the Parkinson’s Foundation, Department of Performing Arts in collaboration with Department of Physical Therapy Education successfully offered classes based on the Mark Morris Dance for Parkinson’s Disease program virtually to five individuals.

During her commencement address, Dean Gail Jensen from Creighton University urged these 45 new graduates to develop habits of the heart as they develop their professional skills and careers.

The Lung Cancer Initiative of North Carolina has awarded a grant to the Elon Department of Physical Therapy Education for research on fall prevention in lung cancer patients.
