A partnership between Elon, the African American Cultural Arts and History Center and the Mayco Bigelow Center, this year’s work will focus on telling stories around faith traditions and moral leaders in Alamance County.

Founded in 2020, he Power and Place Collaborative is a partnership between Elon, the African American Cultural Arts and History Center and the Mayco Bigelow Center and strives to preserve and present stories from and about the people, places and moments of Alamance County’s Black communities.

Through a two-year fellows program, the six students in this multidisciplinary cohort will undertake mentored undergraduate research projects, enroll in specialized coursework and engage in community-based learning with diverse religious communities.

March 24, 2023 learners from the accelerated bachelor's in nursing (ABSN), physical therapy (PT), and physician assistant (PA) programs gathered to hear the story of a local caregiver, problem-solve from their professional perspective, and role play essential conversations for caregivers of special needs children.

Professor Cindy Fair and Ashley Jutras ’20 published research highlighting stories of discrimination, hope, stigma, support, and resilience told by caregivers of adolescents and young adults living with HIV in the peer-reviewed journal Families, Systems, and Health.
