Pam Kiser wins statewide service-learning honor

An Elon University faculty member was honored this week by the North Carolina Campus Compact for her dedication to the practice of service-learning in higher education. Pam Kiser, a professor of human services, received the 2009 Robert L. Sigmon Service-Learning Award at a Feb. 11 campus luncheon as part of an NCCC statewide conference.

Final forum of Winter Term ’09 explores service

Some helped the homeless in Washington. Others repaired drywall and cleaned debris from hurricanes in Louisiana and Texas. All learned more about service. Students shared their experiences in recent courses in a forum held Jan. 27 as part of the Winter Term 2009 theme “Emerging Futures: Foresight for Global Good.”

Elon hosts fall conference for N.C. play therapists

Elon University played host last week to the 6th annual fall conference of the North Carolina Association for Play Therapy, which brought to campus dozens of professionals who work with children dealing with grief, trauma and other issues that bring children to therapy.

Fair, Sullivan to present at APHA conference

Elon alum wins national scholarship

Jaclyn Marie Tordo, a 2008 graduate of Elon with a bachelor of arts degree with a major in human services, has received a premiere graduate scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to help fund her studies in law and social work at Washington University in St. Louis.
