Researchers, thought leaders, and policy makers attended a daylong program in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park on Sept. 17, 2025, to develop research agendas and explore philosophical questions on the nature of humanity with the rise of artificial intelligences.

Findings were presented at a Sept. 17 conference, “The Human Edge: Our Future with Artificial Intelligences", co-hosted by Elon University and RTI International in Durham, N.C.

Leading experts will explore humanity’s role in AI and develop a shared research agenda for responsible innovation when they convene for the Sept. 17 program in Research Triangle Park.

The free resource published by Elon University and AAC&U has been adopted as an important learning resource at 4,000 colleges, universities, schools and organizations.

Faculty from the School of Communications engaged with peers from around the world, contributing research and insights across multiple sessions. Discussions spanned topics such as artificial intelligence, press freedoms, personal branding, and well-being in the communications industry.

The new publication includes guidance for students using AI in their college studies and offers practical advice about preparing for careers that require AI knowledge and skills.

Most respondents to a survey from Elon University's Imagining the Digital Future Center say they expect significant change by 2035.
