Imploring students to follow “their heart’s desire” when deciding how to best advance their communities and country in the years ahead, venture capitalist and former NASA astronaut Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr. shared stories from his career Wednesday in a ceremony to honor him as the second recipient of the Elon University Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Love School of Business students Gregory "Carl" Hairston and Tyler Reynolds have been named as finalists for the World Collegiate Sales Competition, to be held November 11-13 at Northern Illinois University. Only 16 students nationwide were selected as finalists. Students Priscilla Abad and Lindsay Richardson were named semifinalists for the upcoming competition.

Sponsored by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, the program in Whitley Auditorium is free and open to the public.

The executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership served as a featured speaker this month at an international conference organized as part of President Barack Obama’s “Muslim Entrepreneurship Initiative,” which aims to build ties with Muslim communities around the globe.

Christina Benson, an assistant professor of law, and Neeraj J. Gupta, an assistant professor of finance, co-authored a study on sustainable investing with Ravi Mateti, assistant professor of finance at Concordia University in Montréal.

Gary Palin, executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and senior lecturer of entrepreneurship in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, lectured to students at the Dublin Institute of Technology on Oct. 5 in Dublin, Ireland.

For Burney Jennings '87, president and CEO of the North Carolina-based Biscuitville restaurant chain, it's those qualities - and in that order - that have made the company founded by his father, Maurice Jennings '57, such a success. The younger Jennings shared his family's story with a crowded LaRose Digital Theatre on Sept. 15, 2010, in the annual Legends of Business program sponsored by the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.
