The assistant professor of mathematics and statistics discusses the positive outcomes of mathematical failure at the MAA Southeastern Section Conference

Jeff Clark, professor of mathematics, attended the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America where he concluded his two-year term as chair of the section.

The event sponsored by SAS, the Elon Center for Organizational Analytics and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics brought together national and regional speakers to share their expertise and knowledge. 

Mark Weaver, assistant professor of statistics, is a co-investigator on a new R01 grant from the National Institutes of Health to test methods for reducing chronic pain and long-term opioid use among older adults with musculoskeletal pain.

The associate professor of mathematics and Jaclyn (DeVincent) Ashcraft '16 worked with Nicholas Luke from North Carolina A&T State University on the article, which appears in Volume 8 of the journal BIOMATH.

Crista Arangala, Chad Awtrey, Jeff Clark, Kristen Mazur, Aaron Trocki and Karen Yokley attended the Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore, MD, on Jan. 16-19, 2019.

The semester-long course allowed student teams to work with clients at Hanesbrands, Inc. and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants on data analytics projects.

"Efficacy of Misoprostol Alone for First-Trimester Medical Abortion: A Systematic Review" was electronically published ahead of print on Dec. 4, 2018, in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.

"Successful Service-Learning for Statistics Students Studying Survey Sampling” was published by Associate Professor of Statistics Kirsten Doehler in the November 2018 issue of the Statistics Education Research Journal.
