Mathematics professor Jeff Clark attended the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America held in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on April 1 and 2.

Jeffrey Clark, professor of mathematics, gave a presentation on "Using Python in Teaching Numerical Analysis" at the International Conference on Technology in Collegiate Mathematics in Denver on March 18.

Chad Awtrey, assistant professor of mathematics, presented a research talk on p-adic numbers at the annual meeting of the North Carolina Academy of Science in Elon, N.C., on March 26, 2011.

Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, received a grant from the Japan Foundation's Center for Global Partnership. The grant supports his work, "Origami as a Gateway for the Study of Japanese Culture and Society," allows him to strengthen and deepen his work with Clover Garden School, a K-12 charter school in northern Alamance County.

Professor Jeff Clark attended the Joint Mathematics Meetings in New Orleans from Jan. 6-9, 2011.

Amanda Ketner, a senior mathematics major, won the Outstanding Mathematics Education Student Award for the Central Region at the 40th annual conference of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics held Oct. 28-29 in Greensboro, N.C.

Alan Russell, associate professor of mathematics, published "A Model for Undergraduate Research in Statistics Education" in the July 2010 edition of the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
