Public invited to Elon conference on politics & the media

Elon University is hosting a March 29-30 conference on media and politics in which the public is invited to attend workshops with influential public policy makers, journalists and academic researchers. Media and Politics: Openness, Accuracy, and Honesty in the 21st Century Media Landscape is made possible by Elon University’s Turnage Family Faculty Innovation and Creativity Fund for the Study of Political Communication.

Student leaders organize The Elon Network – April 4

At a time when “networking” for many young adults involves little more than using Facebook or LinkedIn, a committee of Elon University students has organized The Elon Network, an April 4 meet-and-greet that will provide an opportunity for students of all class years to learn about career options by interacting with peers who have already interned or completed research projects for various industries.

Professor writes Spanish textbook for health professionals

With the growing number of Spanish-speaking patients who visit emergency rooms and doctors’ offices across the country, medical professionals often confront language barriers that can hinder treatment. Public health researchers have taken note, and a new introductory Spanish textbook authored by Elon University professor Ernest Lunsford takes aim at the problem.

David C. Porter elected to Elon University Board of Trustees

David C. Porter of Sudbury, Mass., will be installed as the newest member of the Elon University Board of Trustees at the board's spring meeting, April 15-16. Porter and his wife, Jen, are the parents of Elon senior Tim Porter, and have served on the university's Parents Council and are members of the Founder's Circle of the Elon Society.

Elon Poll: Economy taking toll on Alamance County

The economy trumps all other issues facing Alamance County, with the effects of a prolonged downturn impacting the social, health and behavioral well being of its residents, according to the latest Elon University Poll. Poll director Hunter Bacot joined with leaders from the United Way of Alamance County and from Healthy Alamance on Tuesday to share findings in a midday news conference from campus.
