The Office of Inclusive Excellence Education and Development’s I-Excel Mini-Grant is designed to support faculty and staff members at Elon University in enhancing their self-awareness and critical consciousness in matters of diversity, equity and inclusion. This mini-grant aims to empower individuals to actively engage in inclusive excellence education and development activities addressing their personal journey to foster a more inclusive campus environment.

Small grants up to $500 are awarded to employees to participate in experiences or obtain resources to advance inclusive excellence education and development (e.g., registration fees, webinars, books, travel and tuition, etc.).

In addition, mandatory certificates for an employee’s job, continuing education units (CEU) credits, or requirements by law are not eligible for the I-Excel mini-grant.

Criteria:

Eligibility: All full-time and part-time faculty and staff members at Elon are eligible to apply.

Purpose: The mini-grant supports activities that directly contribute to increasing self-awareness and critical consciousness (moving from awareness to equitable action) related to diversity and inclusion. Employees must demonstrate how the propose funding will support 1 or more of the following areas:

a.     Increasing knowledge and understanding of concepts, theories, histories, and relationships related to anti-bias, identities, diversity, equity, inclusion and other Inclusive Excellence constructs.

b.     Enhance skills to recognize and address the existence of complex systems of inequity at Elon and in society, and enhance ability to act to create equitable change.

c.     Develop abilities and opportunities to enhance the experiences of historically and presently marginalized identities sense of belonging at Elon.

Budget: The grant will provide up to $500 per recipient to cover expenses associated with inclusive excellence professional development activities.

Review Process: Applications will undergo an anonymous process by members of the DEI Faculty and Staff Development network to ensure fairness and impartiality.

Frequency: The Office of Inclusive Excellence Education and Development will award up to 5 mini-grants each semester.

  1. Description of proposed inclusive excellence education and development activity.
  2. How will this activity contribute to your self-awareness and critical consciousness in matters of Inclusive Excellence, diversity, equity, and inclusion? Describe how activity will support 1 or more of the following areas:
    1. Increasing knowledge and understanding of concepts, theories, histories, and relationships related to anti-bias, identities, diversity, equity, inclusion and other Inclusive Excellence constructs.
    2. Enhance skills to recognize and address the existence of complex systems of inequity at Elon and in society, and enhance ability to act to create equitable change.
    3. Develop abilities and opportunities to enhance the experiences of historically and presently marginalized identities sense of belonging at Elon.
  3. How will the proposed activity support both your current professional goals and your future professional growth?
  4. How will you plan to apply your insights and lessons learned with colleagues or students on campus?
  5. Budget Breakdown: Please provide an itemized breakdown of how the grant funds will be utilized.
  6. Timeline: Provide an estimated timeline for completing the proposed inclusive excellence education and development activity.
