OUR CURRICULUM
Journalism:
Informing the world
At heart, journalists
are storytellers. They tell us about the world we live in, both
locally and globally. They hold up a mirror to society so that we
can see ourselves clearly and truthfully.
Journalism serves an essential role in our democracy by keeping
citizens informed of City Hall and the White House, of the horror
of terrorism and the celebration of an Olympics.
Elon's School of Communications emphasizes convergence in which
journalism comes in many forms - newspapers and magazines, radio
and television, web sites and new media. The forms are multiplying,
but journalism remains constant in its desire to accurately and
compellingly inform citizens in a complicated world.
Journalism students are prepared for fulfilling careers in roles
such as reporters, editors, visual designers, news broadcasters,
web editors and in any profession that emphasizes writing, design,
news and information.
