Math Resources An REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) opportunity in the summer is an excellent way to discover some of the ways mathematics is used in the workplace. There are opportunities for students of all levels, from rising sophomores to rising seniors. Here are a couple of places to look: National Science Foundation - Research Experience for Undergraduates http://www.nsf.gov/home/crssprgm/reu/start.htm St. Olaf/Carleton Summer Women's Program (for rising female sophomores and juniors) http://turing.mathcs.carleton.edu/smp/ George Washington Summer Women's Program http://www.gwu.edu/~math/spwm.html Study abroad is another option. The following program in Budapest in one of the best and oldest study abroad programs available for math majors from the U.S. and Canada: Budapest Semesters in Mathematics http://www.stolaf.edu/depts/math/budapest/ Here are some additional links for those with an interest in mathematics: NSF Division of Mathematical Sciences http://www.nsf.gov/mps/divisions/dms/ The American Mathematical Society http://www.ams.org/ The Mathematical Association of America http://www.maa.org/ The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics http://www.siam.org/ North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges http://math.elon.edu/~ncmatyc/ List of Area Math Departments http://frodo.elon.edu/perl/parser.cgi/nc.dat Annual Elon University High School Mathematics Contest |
