About Disabilities Resources

Welcome to Disabilities Resources! Please use this website to help guide you through any questions/concerns you may have. We also kindly ask that you bear with us as we continue to make updates to our site.

Elon University is committed to the principle of equal opportunity and equitable access. One of the ways we express our commitment is in our efforts to accommodate qualified students with disabilities as they face the challenges of university life. Faculty, staff, administrators, and students work together to find approaches and accommodations that enable students to benefit from the variety of programs and activities on campus.

Mission statement

The mission of Disabilities Resources is to support a diverse population of students with disabilities, providing them with appropriate, equal, and equitable access to the University’s curricula, buildings, programs, and other services.

To accomplish our mission we:

  • Work with students on a case-by-case basis, determining appropriate services and reasonable               accommodations.
  • Work with faculty to ensure their understanding and implementation of student accommodations.
  • Work to connect students and faculty with appropriate resources.
  • Work with University partners to increase awareness and provide equal and equitable access for all Elon students, faculty, and staff.

Confidentiality Statement

The Disabilities Resources Office regards all information about a student’s disability as confidential. This includes all notes, documentation, and electronic and paper correspondence. There is no permanent record kept regarding an individual’s status as a student with a disability; all disability-related files are destroyed five years after the last date of enrollment at Elon. All disability-related records are stored in secure files in Disabilities Resources. Only the Disabilities Resources Director, Accommodations Specialists, and members of the Academic Support staff working directly with students with disabilities have access to these files.

Information related to a student’s disability is released to Elon’s faculty and staff members on a need-to-know basis; students registered with this office acknowledge that some level of disclosure may be necessary to provide appropriate accommodations.
