About Academic Accommodations and Accessibility
Welcome to the Office of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility (AAA)! Please use this website to help guide you through any questions/concerns you may have. We also kindly ask that you bear with us as we continue to make updates to our site.
Elon University is committed to the principle of equal opportunity and equitable access. One of the ways we express our commitment is in our efforts to accommodate qualified students with disabilities as they face the challenges of university life. Faculty, staff, administrators, and students work together to find approaches and accommodations that enable students to benefit from the variety of programs and activities on campus.
Mission Statement
The Office of Academic Accommodations & Accessibility (AAA) is dedicated to ensuring that all students with disabilities have equitable access to the University’s academic programs, services, and opportunities. Through collaboration and advocacy, we strive to create an inclusive environment by:
- partnering with students to identify reasonable accommodations
- educating faculty and staff on accessibility
- maintaining an unwavering commitment to equity and compliance
Vision Statement
Our vision of Elon University is that it is a place where accessibility is woven into every aspect of campus life, where students with disabilities can achieve their full potential, and faculty and staff are supported in creating equitable and inclusive learning environments.
Confidentiality Statement
The Office of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility regards all information about a student’s disability as confidential. This includes all notes, documentation, and electronic and paper correspondence. There is no permanent record kept regarding an individual’s status as a student with a disability; all disability-related files are destroyed five years after the last date of enrollment at Elon. All disability-related records are stored in secure files in the Office of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility. Only the Director of the Office of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility, Accommodations Specialists, and members of the Academic Support staff working directly with students with disabilities have access to these files.
Information related to a student’s disability is released to Elon’s faculty and staff members on a need-to-know basis; students registered with this office acknowledge that some level of disclosure may be necessary to provide appropriate accommodations.
