Faculty Across the Curriculum
The College Writing Advisory Committee offers this section to inform faculty across the disciplines about our philosophy of teaching writing and our intended student outcomes for the course. In addition, we suggest ideas to build on the writing skills and rhetorical strategies presented and practiced in English 110. The outcomes represent expectations shared by Writing Program Administrators across the country.
Because English 110 Writing: Argument and Inquiry is the cornerstone and prerequisite for most courses at Elon, it is taken by students during the fall or spring semester of their first year. As it is the only required writing course, continued writing practice in various disciplines is essential to students' development as mature writers.
