Communications alumnae honored with South Carolina journalism awards

Photo courtesy of Campbell[/caption]​Two School of Communications alumnae combined to win four awards, including a first-place finish in the Short Story category, from the South Carolina Press Association March 14.

Rachel Southmayd Campbell ’13, a reporter for The Herald in Rock Hill, South Carolina, won first place in Short Story for “Teens post Speedo-wearing adventure on social media” and second place in Spot News Story for “Police dash camera captures ‘a bad day in Chester.’” She also captured third place in Sports Feature Story for “YPA player is team’s ‘heart and soul.’” All three of Campbell’s winning entries competed in the Daily 18,0000-45,000 Division. At Elon, Campbell was a print/online journalism major and a former opinions editor of The Pendulum.

Ashley Fahey ’13, a copy editor and page designer for The Island Packet in Beaufort, South Carolina, won third place in Page One Design Portfolio in the Daily 18,0000-45,000 Division. At Elon, she was a print/online journalism major and a former copy chief of The Pendulum.

The awards were presented at the 2015 South Carolina Press Association Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The full awards listing is available online.
