Alumnae reveal inside look at MTV and Viacom

Marissa Heitshusen '09 and Ashlee McCullock '13 visited the School of Communications on April 30 to discuss internships, jobs and media analytics, as well as working for Viacom Music and Entertainment Group.

​The School of Communications welcomed Marissa Heitshusen ’09 and Ashlee McCullock ’13 to campus on April 30 for a series of classroom visits and presentations relating to internships, jobs and media analytics.

The two Elon University graduates oversee digital development strategy and insights for Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, which operates recognizable television networks such as MTV, BET and Nickelodeon.

During the first part of their visit, Heitshusen and McCullock met with Associate Professor Daniel Haygood’s “Digital Brand Communication” course and Assistant Professor Nicole Triche’s “Creating Multimedia Content” class. The duo, joined by Viacom colleague Meredith McGowan, then led an open afternoon session, titled “How to get an internship/job with MTV/Viacom,” in the McEwen Communications Building’s theater.

​The trio later hosted a second discussion in the Powell Building titled “MTV & Media Analytics.” As director of digital development strategy and insights for Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, Heitshusen is well positioned to review the company’s mission and objectives for its online and digital platforms. A senior analyst of digital development strategy and insights, McCullock works with Heitshusen at Viacom.
