Elon University—both main campus and the law school—will operate on a delayed schedule Wednesday, Dec. 12, opening at 10 a.m.

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect in our area through mid-morning Wednesday. Black ice formation is expected in our area overnight as the snow and ice that melted today begins to refreeze on area roadways. Hazardous driving conditions are expected through mid morning and caution is advised.

On campus, our Physical Plant crews have made tremendous progress in clearing sidewalks, parking lots and roadways over the past three days. But there will continue to be slippery spots on campus for the next several days, especially early in the morning and late at night when colder temperatures refreeze melted snow. Proper footwear, winter clothing and extra caution are advised when walking around campus.

With the university scheduled to open at 10 a.m., faculty and staff who live some distance from campus and who might be prevented from safely traveling to campus should notify their respective dean (faculty) or supervisor (staff).

Impact on final exams

The revised final exam schedule released Monday, which is included here, remains unchanged as no exams begin before 10 a.m. As a reminder, faculty members are strongly encouraged to communicate directly with students about how the modified schedule will affect the exam for their course. Some faculty may consider alternative methods of administering an exam or calculating final grades. All course examination and grading decisions are at the discretion of individual faculty.

Students who have a conflict between an exam and previously scheduled travel plans should discuss the conflict directly with the course instructor. Elon faculty are aware of the challenges students may experience as a result of the condensed final exam schedule and have been encouraged to work creatively to accommodate these requests on a case by case basis.

Students whose faculty members assigned online exams or work to be submitted through Moodle should check for email communication from their instructors. Even though the timing of in-person exams has been modified, original deadlines for online submissions may be maintained.

Information for graduate or law exams will come directly from the graduate or law programs/schools.

Revised final exam schedule, issued Monday at 2 p.m.
Red text indicates changes to dates/times as compared to the schedule published at the beginning of the year.
