The Big Village
One-on-one instruction for struggling kindergarten through 5th grade readers and parental support in a non-threatening setting.
Expert tutoring is provided by dedicated ABSS teachers and passionate Elon University students, who work together to support each student’s academic success and growth. Each participating student will receive a nutritious meal at every session.
Additionally, we provide adult education ESL/Spanish language classes for parents of our students. It is provided in collaboration with Alamance Community College and our own small group instruction.
- Free weekly one-on-one and small group tutoring in reading & math for K-5 students
- Fall 2025 Programs running from the week of September 22nd through the week of November 17th.
- Fall & Spring programs for approximately 10 weeks each semester
- Weekly from 5-7 PM (T, W, Th)
- Free dinner provided by ABSS Child Nutrition
- Instruction provided by ABSS Teachers & supported by Elon University student volunteers
- Parent programs are provided to support learning at home (study skills, computer literacy, community resource fairs, English classes)
- Program evaluation from deidentified student assessment data, teacher & parent surveys, parent focus groups
