Volunteer Registration

Registration to be announced for Spring 2026.

Volunteer Information:

This fall, The Village Project will operate one evening per week from 5:00–6:40PM at each of our partner elementary schools within the ABSS. The program runs for 9 weeks, with specific session days varying by location (Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights). Volunteers will be matched with a school based on their availability and the school’s specific needs – They will be expected to stay from 4:45-7PM at their site.

Before registering, please be sure to read our Volunteer Guide and be aware of the following information:

By registering to volunteer with the “It Takes a Village” Project, you are committing to volunteer one night a week for the entire duration of the program in the fall semester. If you are sick, on vacation, or otherwise unable to attend for a week, you are expected to let your teacher liaison and the Village Project’s Assistant Director know ahead of time.

The Village Project is able to provide transportation to our Elon volunteers. If you are unable to provide your own transportation, please indicate in the registration form, and we will be able to provide a bus/shuttle for you. If you indicate that you do not need transportation, please ensure that you are able to provide your own reliable transportation, as we will not be providing you with transportation this semester.

Before You Begin | Checklist

Since you will be working with vulnerable populations, we have a few requirements for our volunteers to complete before you can officially begin tutoring. Please ensure you have completed all the following to ensure you will be able to begin volunteering the first week:

  • REGISTRATION FORM: Fill out the appropriate registration above to ensure you have enough time to complete the additional pre-volunteering requirements (Linked above).
  • PROTECTION OF MINORS TRAINING: For Elon students, access training through Vector and follow the steps in the Volunteer Guide.   If you have questions about Vector access or online training, please contact compliance@elon.edu. For High School Students, since you all do not have Elon accounts, you will be unable to access the training. Instead, please complete the training by watching the video & taking the quiz available at this link. And email the results to kplatts@elon.edu
  • BACKGROUND CHECK: Students will receive an email from the Center for Access and Success with a link to the background check form. High School students and non-Elon volunteers should reach out to kplatts@elon.edu to request a link.
  • MANDATORY PRE-VOLUNTEERING ZOOM MEETING:  All registered volunteers will receive an email with the link before the meeting.

More details on each of these requirements can be found in the Village Project Volunteer Guide. All links and contacts can also be located in the ITAV Resource Guide.
