The Elon University Wind Ensemble “Phoenix Winds” is a contemporary wind ensemble focused on the performance of a wide variety of established and newly composed repertoire at the highest level possible. The band rehearses just once a week in the fall and spring, allowing you enough time to participate in the ensemble, and still have time to explore other musical experiences or take advantage of other opportunities that Elon offers.
Registration to join the wind ensemble is open to any student at Elon University with experience playing a wind or percussion instrument. There are no auditions to join the ensemble if you meet the experience requirement; however, there are small part placement auditions held at the beginning of each semester. Sign-up sheets for these placement auditions will be posted outside the band room (CFA 164) one week before school begins. If you have any questions about the Phoenix Winds, feel free to email Dr. Poquette at email@example.com.
The Elon Chamber Players is a new ensemble formed in 2014. The group generates its membership from the wind ensemble. All students participating in the wind ensemble are eligible to join, however, the instrumentation each semester is determined by the repertoire and can be limited. The ensemble specializes in the performance of high quality chamber repertoire (5-18 players) for winds and percussion. The ensemble has seen an expansion in just its first year and will continue to expand through the commissioning of new works, premieres, and a focus on avant-garde repertoire.
