The Elon University Wind Ensemble “Phoenix Winds” is a contemporary wind ensemble focused on the performance of a wide variety of wind repertoire from classic works for winds, to very modern, avant-garde repertoire and everything in between. The band provides a variety of unique experiences including world premiere performances of newly commissioned works, working directly with composers, performances with outstanding guests artists, chamber music, creative and diverse programming, media integration, and collaboration with other artistic mediums. The band rehearses just once a week in the fall and spring, allowing you enough time to participate in the ensemble, and still have time to explore other musical experiences or take advantage of other opportunities that Elon offers.
The Elon Chamber Players are a new ensemble formed by Director of Bands, Dr. Kehl in 2014. The group generates its membership from the wind ensemble. All students participating in the wind ensemble are eligible to join, however, the instrumentation each semester is determined by the repertoire and can be limited. The ensemble specializes in the performance of high quality chamber repertoire (5-18 players) for winds and percussion. The ensemble has seen an expansion in just its first year and will continue to expand through the commissioning of new works, premieres, and a focus on avant-garde repertoire.
