What you can learn, shaped in a wider world

Studying abroad gives you a chance to experience engineering and computing from a different perspective, seeing how place, culture and context can shape the problems people face and the solutions they create.

Your global experience can take many forms. Study at an international university, explore a new subject during Winter Term, pursue research or an internship abroad, or take part in a specialized experience such as Engineering at Sea. You can choose an opportunity that connects directly to your major, or simply explore a subject or place that interests you.

Either way, it’s not a break from your Elon education. It’s your education, somewhere else.

Where you could go and what you could do

Your global experience can take different forms. Spend a few weeks abroad during Winter Term, study for a semester or year at an international university, or pursue an experience connect to research, engineering, or another academic interest.

Short-Term Programs

Spend Winter Term or summer exploring a focused topic in another part of the world.

Semester Programs

Spend a semester at an international university while continuing progress toward your degree.

Explore Something Different

Step outside your major to explore a new subject, experience a new place or pursue another interest.

A closer look at your options

Winter Term and summer programs give you opportunities to take your learning somewhere new without committing to a full semester abroad. Explore engineering, computing, and related questions in a different cultural context while learning alongside Elon faculty and students.

Engineering abroad

Engineering faculty have identified programs such as Georgia Tech Europe, the University of Barcelona and Semester at Sea as possibilities to explore. The courses that fit your degree will depend on your program and when you go.

Computer Science abroad

Computer science students have studied with DIS in Stockholm and Copenhagen and with IFSA in Prague. You can work with your advisor to see how available courses might apply to your major or Elon’s Core Curriculum.

A semester in your four-year plan
