Design Forge
Design Forge is Elon’s annual convening of design thinking educators, practitioners and thought leaders. Each year, Design Forge addresses a topic of interest to higher education, strengthens collaboration in the design thinking community and searches for new opportunities for design thinking to enhance student learning.
Design Forge 2027: Cultivation
The 2027 Forge will take place on March 24 & 25, both online and at Elon University, as we explore the theme of cultivation.

On March 26, in-person attendees are invited to extend their time through a Forging Fridays Writing Fellowship.
Exploring Cultivation
As we explore cultivation together, we invite you to consider these questions:
- Remember: How might we tap into deeply rooted knowledge systems that can nourish future generations?
- Reimagine: How might we cultivate resilient communities and diverse sociocultural ecosystems that balance needs and resources with care, and which allow for emergence?
- Remake: How might we design systems that allow for continuous refinement of relationships with ourselves and others?
- Restory: What might happen when we reframe design as a process of cultivation? How might design as praxis open opportunities for more intentional growth and decline?
