Every community is full of stories – some well-known, some waiting to be told, others on the verge of being lost. The Power + Place Collaborative is bringing those stories to the surface, encouraging Elon University students to step outside the campus bubble and into the Alamance County community.

the power and place logo, a patchwork quilt of many colorsThe Power + Place Collaborative is an expanding community partnership between the African American Cultural Arts & History Museum, Elon University faculty and students, Burlington Recreation and Parks, Alamance County Libraries, and other diverse faith-based community partners and cultural organizations. Since the fall of 2020, the Collaborative has led a community-based oral history and storytelling initiative to record, preserve, present, and celebrate stories from and about Alamance County’s diverse communities. By fostering in-person, digital, and place-based sites of collective storytelling, deep listening, and community engagement, the Collaborative seeks to envision a more caring and inclusive future deeply rooted in historic community strength and resilience.
