Byrd and Howard make presentations at the 2008 CEC Convention and Expo

Stephen Byrd, assistant professor of education, made a presentation entitled “Characteristics and Perspectives of Special Education in India” at the international convention of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) in Boston, April 2-5. He highlighted his current research on schooling, teacher preparation, and special education in India. He also described his ongoing work with the Bethshan Special School in Madurai, India.

Judith Howard, professor of education, made a presentation on the connections between two education initiatives, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Responsiveness to Intervention (RTI). Her discussion included the results of an ongoing investigation by the Elon special education faculty of the implementation of RTI in the Alamance-Burlington School System.

The Council for Exceptional Children is an international organization representing various stakeholders who are committed to enhancing the lives of individuals of all ages with disabilities. This year’s conference was held in Boston with over 6100 in attendance.
