author, Under the Overpass: A Journey of Faith on the Streets of America
His book follows a five-month journey with his traveling companion, Sam Purvis— when both took time away from their comfortable, middle class lives to experience firsthand the life of homelessness. After meals from garbage cans and dumpsters, Mike and his friend Sam found their beds under bridges and on the streets. They depended upon the generosity of strangers to sustain their existence and experienced the extreme pains of hunger, the constant uncertainty and danger of living on the streets, exhaustion, depression and social rejection. The book also follows the interaction between the two and their own developing spiritual lives.
