Education alumni garner Alamance-Burlington School System honors

The Alamance-Burlington School System named Tyronna McKoy Hooker, a 2009 graduate of Elon's master of education program, its 2010 Teacher of the Year at a banquet on Wednesday, Sept. 8. Five other Elon alums, all chosen as their respective school's teacher of the year, were also considered for the system-wide recognition.

Three Elon CIS and CS seniors complete summer undergraduate research experiences

During the past summer, the Computing Sciences department was proud to have three CIS and CS seniors complete ten week summer undergraduate research experiences at three different universities. Amanda Bienz did her research at Clemson University. She worked on a Virtual Patient project to allow students majoring in nursing to train by asking questions of a computer program instead of a professor. Amy Eubanks did her research at Elon University. She worked on an augmented reality application for mobile smart phones to persuade people to spend more time outdoors. Katherine Vogt did her research at Virginia Tech. She investigated the collaborative use of large display environments for sense-making and visual analytics.

Five Elon CIS and CS seniors complete 10 week summer internship at Credit Suisse

During the past summer, Credit Suisse offered approximately thirty paid summer internship positions for rising senior undergraduates at their Research Triangle Park location. These are highly regarded internships with many applicants from across North Carolina. The Elon Computing Sciences department was proud to have five students receive and complete the summer internship. The five students were: Joel Blondy, Dan Cresse, Catherine FitzGerald, John Minshall and Andrew Sutherland.
