Class of 2015 sets Elon marks for size, diversity

With about 1,425 first-year students, Elon’s Class of 2015 is the largest, most qualified and most diverse in the university’s history.

A record 16 percent of first-year students are from ethnically diverse groups, including 7 percent African-American, 4 percent Hispanic and 3 percent Asian. Six percent of the class are international enrollees, a 22 percent increase from last year’s entering class.

First-year students had an average high school core courses GPA of 3.9, with an average SAT score of 1831 (math – 608; critical reading – 610; writing – 614). The middle 50 percent of the class had SAT scores ranging from 1720 to 1960.

Two-thirds of the class ranked in the top quartile of their high school graduating classes, with one-third ranking in the top 10 percent of their classes. Twenty-eight percent received Elon’s Presidential Scholarship.

Members of the Class of 2015 come from 40 states, including 19 percent from North Carolina; 9 percent from Massachusetts; 8 percent each from New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia; and 7 percent each from Connecticut and New York.
