Alumni gather at Welcome to the City events

Events give Elon alumni the chance to meet 2012 graduates and other alumni new to the area.

This fall, more than 600 Elon alumni and friends gathered at Welcome to the City events across the nation to meet Elon’s newest graduates and reconnect with the university. For many recent graduates, attending an event and establishing a local Elon network is one way to feel more at home in a new city.

“Welcome to the City was a great opportunity for both networking and reconnecting,” says Sarah Graves ’12, who attended an event in Raleigh, N.C. “I ran into friends I hadn’t seen since graduation and met a new group of alumni I can reach out to in the future.”

As young alumni leave Elon and relocate in all directions, local alumni chapter events also serve to rebuild social circles.

“I met all of my wonderful friends and my boyfriend playing on an Elon kickball team and through chapter events,” says Ashley Feibish ’07. “Several of us didn’t even attend Elon at the same time, and would have never crossed paths if not for our alumni chapter’s events. Had I not taken the time to attend a Welcome to the City event just a few years ago, I wouldn’t have met the incredible people I now consider my Atlanta family.”

Events were held throughout August and September in Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Charleston, S.C., Charlotte, Raleigh, Ft. Lauderdale and Nashville. The Washington D.C. event, organized by chapter president Jennifer Heilman ’07, garnered more than 100 participants, including John Hill ‘76, president of the Elon Alumni Board.
