Sigma Tau Delta presents: A talk with author Abigail Santamaria ’00 – April 11

The author will talk about her experience researching her first book, "Joy: Poet, Seeker, and the Woman Who Captivated C. S. Lewis," which tells the story of the intricate life of Joy Davidman, the woman who captivated C.S. Lewis late in his life.

Santamaria will talk about her experience researching and writing the biography of Joy Davidman, wife of CS Lewis. Her quest to document Davidman’s life spanned over a decade, filled with many unexpected twists and turns that included a trip to Malta, where she met with Davidman’s son, Douglas Gresham. Since the publication of “Joy:  Poet, Seeker, and the Woman Who Captivated CS Lewis” last fall, the book has received accolades in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Afer eanring a degree in English from Elon in 2000, Santamaria went on to earn a Master of Fine Arts in nonfiction writing from Columbia University. She has been awarded fellowships from the Ragdale Foundation, Jentel Arts and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She lives in New York City with her son.”Joy” is her first book.
