Professors Dave Gammon and Jen Hamel of Elon’s Department of Biology and Dawson Nance ’17, a biology major who conducts research with Hamel, presented their research at the recent Animal Behavior Society 2016 conference in Columbia, Mo.
ABS 2016, the annual national conference of the Animal Behavior Society, was held July 30 through Aug. 4 in Columbia. Gammon presented his work, “Open-ended song learning in northern mockingbirds?” in a session on animal communication. (Gammon also won the men’s category in the society’s 5k fun-run!)
Hamel presented her work, “Causes and consequences of reproductive interference in two closely-related insect species,” in a session on animal mating systems.
Nance presented a poster titled, “Examining the effects of parasitism on mate choice and copulation duration” that summarized research she conducted during Elon SURE 2015 under Hamel’s mentorship.
