Phi Psi Cli staff shares expertise with high school yearbook class

School of Communications students Sarah Stone ’19 and Emery Eisner ’22 visited The Burlington School on April 29, reflecting on their experiences serving on the yearbook staff and offering insights on how their college publication comes together.

Beyond the enjoyment and the sense of community Phi Psi Cli has provided her, Sarah Stone ’19 explained one additional benefit will soon come from her time working on Elon’s student-run yearbook: a great portfolio piece when she applies for jobs.

During an April 29 visit with students in The Burlington School’s yearbook class, Stone, Phi Psi Cli's editor-in-chief and a communication design major, reasoned few items would better prove her creative abilities than the bounded, 192-page publication – a book she's built over the course of an entire academic year.

Accompanied by Adviser Tommy Kopetskie and News Editor Emery Eisner ’22, Stone discussed several subjects relating to yearbooks, the transition from high school to college, and the communications industry in general. Additionally, the trio fielded additional questions from the high school students.

Eisner, a journalism and political science double major, was recently elected editor-in-chief for the 2020 Phi Psi Cli book.

Phi Psi Cli’s classroom visit came together thanks to an invitation from Chris Rash, The Burlington School’s director of communications and yearbook adviser. The independent pre-kindergarten to 12th grade college preparatory school is located just a few miles from Elon University's campus.

Phi Psi Cli won a Best of Show award in February at the 2019 North Carolina College Media Association conference and placed seventh in an Associated Collegiate Press competition last fall.
