Fire of the Carolinas, Phoenix Winds, Concert Band enlisting musicians

Deadline to complete music ensembles interest form is July 6.

Elon’s bands are recruiting new members for the 2021-22 academic year.

Anyone interested in joining the Fire of the Carolinas marching band and color guard, Phoenix Winds Wind Ensemble, or the Concert Band should complete this form by July 6.

Phoenix Winds Wind EnsembleEach band is open to all Elon students with experience playing brass, wind, percussion — and even piano — regardless of their major or academic year.

“Any and all students are welcome,” said Jonathan Poquette, director of bands and lecturer in music. “We’re really excited about what we have to offer. Yes, we want to produce the highest-quality music but we’re also really working hard to make sure that we reestablish a family atmosphere, especially after the pandemic when we’re longing for some of these more personal and personable interactions.”

These ensembles are one (1) credit-hour classes. If a student in the band is already at a full course load, 18 credit hours, the Dean’s Office of Elon College, the College of Arts and Sciences, will cover fees for additional credit hours.

Anyone interested in joining an ensemble — “even if they’re on the fence” — should contact Poquette by email at jpoquette@elon.edu.

More details:

Fire of the Carolinas (MUS: 1020A)

Marching band camp begins Aug. 14 and runs through Aug. 23. Students get $20 in Phoenix Cash for meals each day during camp. Students will live on campus during band camp and participate in three rehearsals each day (two outdoors, one indoors) and social activities during the evenings. The early arrival allows the band to form a community and especially offers first-year students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with campus and begin developing friendships before classes begin.

FOTC will play at five home games in Fall 2021

Fall semester rehearsals are 4:10 to 5:40 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. (Individual schedules can be flexible to avoid conflicts with other classes.)

Rehearsals are 2:20-4:10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Concert Band (MUS 1010A)
