Elon celebrates Native American Heritage Month with storytelling and community events

The Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education will host a series of programs throughout November in honor of Native American Heritage Month.

Throughout November, the Elon community will come together to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a variety of events designed to foster learning and reflection on the rich history of the Native American identity and culture.

The celebration of the month was established in 1990, when President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under variants on the name (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”), have been issued each year since 1994.

Hosted by the Center for Race, Ethnicity and Diversity Education (CREDE), this year’s celebration is themed “Storytelling: what stories go untold and what stories need to be told?”

If you have any questions, please contact George Dou, assistant director of the CREDE, at gdou@elon.edu or (336) 278-7243.
