Economics Students Visit Chicago

Students in Dr. Thomas Tiemann’s 440 Urban Economics took an October 7 day trip to Chicago. The visit was an opportunity to learn how a city like Chicago can evolve terms of population, transportation, culture, and commerce. Students rode the “L,” toured Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), Millenium Park, and the platinum-LEED-certified Chicago Center for Green Technology, the city’s prime example of urban green technology. A visit to the Chicago Board of Trade was arranged by Ed Maxwell, father of Brendan Maxwell ’05.

Elon MBA Welcomes New Cohort

Elon MBA welcomed thirty-one new students to the program in September. The cohort includes graduates of Michigan State, University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, and UNC-Chapel Hill, and employees of firms such as Bank of America, Siemens Energy, Henredon Furniture Industries, Dow Corning, and Credit Suisse. Elon's MBA ranked as the nation's fifth "best administered" program in The Princeton Review's 2010 edition of the "Best 301 Business Schools."

Kindermusik CEO guest speaker to business students

Michael Dougherty, chairman and CEO of Kindermusik International, challenged students to consider new paradigms of responsible leadership during a presentation last Thursday evening in the LaRose Digital Theatre of Koury Business Center.

Beta Alpha Psi Receives Superior Chapter Honor

Elon's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting and finance honorary, was recognized by the national organization as a Superior Chapter for excellence in academics, professionalism and leadership. The chapter's faculty advisor is Patty Cox.

LSB Professor receives Distinguished Research Award

Dr. Norris Gunby, assistant professor of management in the Love School of Business, received the Distinguished Research Award at the Academy of Strategic Management conference in August. His paper, “The Governance of Telecommuters: An Agency and Transaction Cost Analysis,” co-authored with Jeff Brice, Texas Southern University and Millicent Nelson, Middle Tennesee State University, will be published in a forthcoming issue of the Academy of Strategic Management journal.

MBA Tailgate Party

The 4th annual MBA Tailgate Party & Football Game will be held Saturday, September 26 at Rhodes Stadium. The tailgate starts at 12 pm, with kick-off for the Elon vs. Georgia Southern game at 1:30 pm.
