The local minister formed a community partnership with Elon’s Assistant Professor of Philosophy Lauren Guilmette and the Alamance Resiliency Coalition to provide resources to help the older populations of East Burlington during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funded by the North Carolina Local News Lab Fund and housed in Elon’s School of Communications, the local news initiative will support four student journalists this summer as they cover the impact of COVID-19 and other important stories across North Carolina.

During an online ceremony, these six new Elon alumni formalized their participation in service-year programs offered by Elon in partnership with local organizations. Six fellows who have completed their year of service were also recognized.

The annual event held on May 19 – the evening before the iMedia Commencement ceremony – provided 30 graduate students an opportunity to publicly present their thesis projects, illustrating the culmination of knowledge they obtained during the 10-month program.

The North Carolina Local News Workshop, housed at Elon’s School of Communications, will champion new approaches to providing reliable, high-quality journalism and information for NC residents and offer a base of support for organizations and individuals working to reinvent and sustain local news.

The student-led service organization has successfully filled dozens of leadership positions despite being forced to transition to a virtual hiring process in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Martha and Spencer Love School of Business students partnered with Junior Achievement USA to offer lessons at E.M. Holt Elementary School.

Assistant Professor of Philosophy Lauren Guilmette’s Health and Social Justice students support Alamance County residents by distributing zines with information about COVID-19.

More than 500 participants raised nearly $7,000 during “Step It Up,” a week-long digital steps competition where all profits went to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

A grant from the Greensboro Virus Relief Fund is helping the law school’s Small Business & Entrepreneurship Clinic hire a practitioner-in-residence to coordinate its new COVID-19 Small Business Response Initiative.
