Elon Sports Vision

Andrew Scarlata ’19, a member of the Washington Nationals organization, provided an insightful keynote address at the Sport Management Department’s fall internship forum held virtually on Oct. 19.

The cinema and television arts major and Elon Sports Vision president plays an integral role for the Department of Performing Arts and its new production, “Pheromone: An Awkward Olfactory Inquiry.”

The Communications Fellow and journalism major is the highest ranked first-year student in the award’s history and the first Elon student to be recognized since 2013.

Beginning on Monday, May 11, the school will host five nights of programming, premiering student work and celebrating academic achievements at 7 p.m. on ElonComm apps for AppleTV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Android TV. The programs will also be available on the school’s Facebook and Vimeo platforms.

The chair of the Sport Management Department offered insights on the immediate loss of revenue felt by schools and if institutions might consider divisional reclassification as a result.

In recognition of National Girls & Women in Sports Day, the School of Communications and the Women Influencers in Sport (WINS) initiative hosted a daylong event featuring an on-campus panel discussion, networking reception and classroom visits with female professionals in the sport industry.

Assistant Professor David Bockino and 14 students in his Through the Lens of ESPN class enjoyed an expansive media tour in the Northeast, visiting ESPN, Fox Sports, DAZN and the NHL, before making their way south to examine sports outlets, athletic venues and South American culture in Argentina.

The recent Elon graduate was named the Hokies’ director of player development last summer and his early contributions have been lauded by fellow members of the Virginia Tech coaching staff.

The chair of the Sport Management Department authored a research article published in the Journal of Amateur Sport, a publication for scholars to share scholarship relevant to the amateur sports realm.
